The Real Show Stealer of Wrestlemania 32 may be NXT Takeover: Dallas
Wrestlemania 32 takes place this Sunday, April 3, at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. The WWE has been building this spectacular for over a year now and promised it would be the biggest event in their history. But, a long list of injuries have plagued the Wrestlemania card and the WWE had to quickly recover and put together the best card possible. And while I still believe it will be a great and intriguing show, I believe the real show stealer may be the NXT Takeover event taking place on the Friday night before Wrestlemania 32.
NXT, the WWE’s developmental brand that has built its own huge following, will have their WWE Network special on Friday night and have a great card lined up. Taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, NXT Takeover: Dallas is composed of six matches that are all capable of wowing the live audience and the WWE Network audience.
Match 1: Austin Aries vs. Baron Corbin
Austin Aries is new to the NXT roster but already has a huge following from his run in the independents and other companies like ROH and TNA. He is a pure wrestler and a great talent. He is sure to excite the crowd and is working with an NXT wrestler who is on the verge of possibly moving up to the main roster in Corbin.
Corbin has been a mainstay in NXT for a while now and is the go-to guy for many of newcomer’s debuts. His rough, bruising style is a contrast to Aries but I believe this will be a solid match. But, in the end, Aries will get the three-count.
Winner: Austin Aries
Match 2: The Revival (C) vs. American Alpha – NXT Tag Team Championship Match
The tag team of Dash and Dawson, also known as The Revival, come into Takeover as NXT Champions after a successful defense at WWE’s Roadblock special. The Revival is a throwback tag team reminiscent of tag teams from the 80’s and earlier. But they now face a tag team that is as technically sound as any other.
American Alpha, the team of Jordan and Gable, are two sound, proficient wrestlers that could give The Revival a tough challenge. I think both teams have a great match and I predict a title change when it’s all said and done.
Winner: American Alpha
Match 3: Apollo Crews vs. Elias Samson
Apollo Crews is one of the top stars in NXT after a successful run in the indies. Not long after debuting in NXT, Crews gained a huge fan base and rightfully so. He is one of the most physically gifted wrestlers in the brand and has a great set of in-ring moves.
Samson has been in NXT for a while and is a reliable worker. I am not too familiar with Samson but when I have seen him he has impressed and should hold his own against Crews. But I can’t see him getting the win though.
Winner: Apollo Crews
Match 4: Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Zayn is a fan favorite everywhere he goes. He will also be wrestling on the Wrestlemania 32 card in an Intercontinental Championship ladder match. But in this match, he will be facing off against Nakamura in his NXT debut match.
Nakamura was a huge star in Japan and signed with WWE around the same time as AJ Styles. I honestly don’t know anything about Nakamura other than hearing that he is great. This may be one of the best matches of the night and Nakamura should win his debut in Dallas.
Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura
Match 5: Bayley (C) vs. Asuka – Women’s Championship Match
Bayley has been the workhorse of the NXT Women’s division since Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks all left for the WWE main roster last year. She has fought all challengers and held the title since August. The time will come for Bayley to be promoted too but I don’t think it is time just yet.
Asuka is another import from Japan and has also been very impressive with her work in NXT. I believe she has everything needed to be a NXT Women’s champion and will hold the title one day. But not just yet.
Match 6: Finn Balor (C) vs. Samoa Joe – NXT Championship Match
Finn Balor has been the face of NXT for about a year now and won the NXT Championship in July of 2015. Since then he has just continued to impress and now must face Samoa Joe, a very talented wrestler that came over from TNA last year.
Joe is one of the best wrestlers in the world today and has been impressing the NXT crowd since his debut. Both of these guys could be on the main roster at any moment but I believe Balor will be the first one to get the call to move up. And I believe it will be soon! With all of the injuries and a lack of star power on the WWE roster, Balor may be on the WWE roster as soon as the Monday after Wrestlemania 32. Therefore, I will pick Samoa Joe to win the match and be the new NXT Champion.
Winner: Samoa Joe
