The Comedy Bracket!

1. “I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.” The Godfather – Versus – 8. “Enough is ENOUGH! I have had it with these motherfuckin’ snakes on this motherfuckin’ plane!” Snakes on a Plane

A truly remarkable line in arguably one of the greatest movies ever, Don Vito sets the tone against a disappointing action movie, Snakes on a Plane. Wait, what? What’s happening?!?! There are snakes everywhere! I remember the buzz about this film though, it took my good hard-earned money. People were waiting in line to make sure they saw this premier! Now this was action! Good god, don’t tell me… With a vote of 3-0 (somehow)and the biggest upset so far… Winner: “Enough is ENOUGH! I have had it with these motherfuckin’ snakes on this motherfuckin’ plane!”

Unknown2. “The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.” Fight Club – Versus – 7. “No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!” Goldfinger

What is the first rule of Fight Club? You do not talk about Fight Club. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt (**Spoilers**) are Tyler Durden, creating “fight clubs” and anarchy in various cities across the United States. Needless to say, they tell people what they are doing and many people follow in over-throwing in many of the United States “evil” institutions. This distinguished line takes on not James Bond, but instead a villain’s. Auric Goldfinger hears 007 asks, “Do you expect me to talk?” Goldfinger lets him know how it is, but falls for the oldest villain cliche of trying to extract information out of your captured foe. So classic versus classic screw up? Or is it? Our crew happens to be fans of the Ian Fleming character. With a score of 2-1 and throwing this bracket into anything goes and anything can happen… Winner: “No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!”

3. “Go ahead, make my day.” Sudden Impact – Versus – 6. “I’m too old for this shit.” Lethal Weapon

This is probably the toughest matchup of things people really say in their everyday lives. After a hard weekend of partying, or drinking wine and eating cheeeeeze, people love to use “I’m getting too old for this shit.” When you’re ticked off at work at your boss, or sitting across from a car at a red light, “Go ahead, make my day,” is a perfect saying. I remember flipping back and forth on this one for a while, and then it hit me. This is the Best Action Movie One Liner tournament, not some day at the country club. In a close one taking it 2-1… Winner: “Go ahead, make my day.”

4. “I’ll be back.” The Terminator – Versus – 5. “Get away from her, you bitch!” Aliens

Perhaps the biggest action movie star ever, Arnold is back at it again delivering his line from the original The Terminator as he shows his action movie line prowess. Sigourney Weaver come in as a bit of a wildcard in this tournament, having played a unbelivable role and in a great story delivers a powerful line in protecting another while killing a bad ass alien, but was it enough? Not today, as the Terminator goes 2-0 in the first round winning 2-1. Winner: “I’ll be back.”

Wild Card Bracket!

1. “Say Hello to my Little Friend!” Scarface – Versus – 8. “Dead or alive, you’re coming with me.” RoboCop

If you have ever been to Miami, you would think Scarface was a real man and he was a martyr there. Seriously, everyone wears t-shirts and lives their lives like him. The line however is one of the most powerful in action movie history, earning a #1 seed for Al Pacino. Even with a new RoboCop on the horizon, Officer Alex Murphy stood no chance. Taking the round 3-0… Winner: “Say Hello to my Little Friend!”

2. “Adrian!” Rocky – Versus – 7. ”I feel the need… the need for speed!” Top Gun

Running up the Rocky Steps, punching a side of beef into a pulp, getting beat into a pulp, Rocky put everything he had into his fight with Apollo Creed. Blood, sweat, tears and his willingness to take a punch and keep coming made Rocky an iconic movie. With his last bits of energy, Rocky screamed for the one he loved to join his side making this a powerful line in action movie history. With names like Maverick, Goose and Iceman, Top Gun made aviator glasses and playing volleyball at the beach… well weird if you think about the weird vibe going on at the beach that day. Maverick wasn’t fighting in the air this day, falling with a hard left hook. No standing 8 count… Winner: “Adrian!”Unknown

3. “You talkin’ to me?” Taxi Driver – Versus – 6. “I love the smell of napalm in the morning.” Apocalypse Now

I’ve never seen someone so calm as Captain Willard as he explains to the troops the vision he has even with so much chaos around him. As calm as the captain was, Travis Bickle was that unstable. Deniro looks wirey and about to come off his hinges. A scene that made him get noticed and helped propel his career (along with The Godfather: Part II). In a close one, he wins 2-1. Ya, I’m talking to you!  Winner: “You talkin’ to me?”

4. “Sweep the leg.” The Karate Kid  – Versus – 5. “Consider this a divorce.” Total Recall

I’m sure many married people have considered Arnold’s divorce terms a little extreme as he showed in Total Recall, showing that he can be a little insensitive when he finds out his wife is really an agent for some evil government group (or something like that) just watching over him. “Sweep the leg.” Simple command. Even the dirtiest players in the game thought this was too much. Daniel Larusso was able to overcome the leg sweep, an ultimately overcomes Douglas Quaid, or is it Hauser. With a final of 3-0… Winner: “Sweep the leg.”

Crazy round one action comes to a close with some big upsets and some great match ups upcoming. Tune in tomorrow to catch the Round of 16 and see who places themselves in the Elite 8 of the Best Action Movie Line ever!
